On the other end of the court, the Eagles struggled offensively by shooting 39.7 percent from the field on “Senior Night.” The Falcons held Edgewood scoreless the final six minutes of the first half, while closing out the period on a 11-0 run to take a 36-25 lead at halftime.
Edgewood was able to cut the Falcons’ lead down to five, 62-57, on a three-point basket by senior Dave Michalkiewicz with 2:55 remaining. But the Falcons, who were 12-of-17 from the free throw line in the second half, were able to knock down their foul shots at the end.
Concordia’s zone defense left plenty of opportunities for the Eagles to hit long-range jumpers. However, Edgewood responded by shooting just 3-of-14 from beyond the arc in the final period. Seth Cooper scored 13 of his game-high 19 points in the second half. Cooper also tallied a team-best nine rebounds and four assists.
Michalkiewicz ended up with 10 points, followed by Charlie Averkamp and Greg Blaska, who each added nine points. Blaska also tied a personal season-high with three blocked shots.
Josh Atkinson netted 18 points to lead Concordia prior to fouling out of the contest with 3:28 left to play. Matt Peets finished with 17 points on 7-of-8 shooting, while Steve Huenink provided 13 points off of the bench. The Falcons turned the ball over just seven times, compared to 12 miscues by Edgewood.
