ROCK ISLAND, Illinois – David Gershenzon dropped in 30 points to lead Elmhurst to an 86-79 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin victory over Augustana on Wednesday night in Rock Island, Illinois. Gershenzon made eight of 11 from the floor, two of four from three point range and drained all 12 of his free throws in 24 minutes of work off the bench. The Bluejays jumped out to an early 12 point lead (26-14 with 6:42 left in the first half) before Augustana made an impressive 13-0 run to take a 27-26 advantage with 2:32 left when Rick Harrigan finished off a three point play. Harrigan had four points and Jay McAdams-Thornton six in the burst. At halftime the score was 29-28 in favor of Elmhurst. A pair of free throws by Drew Wessels tied the score at 60-60 with 7:01 left but the Bluejays scored the next seven points to take control. Nick Michael converted a three point play to make it 63-60, Chris Martin hit a pair of free throws and Michael scored on a fast break with 5:54 left to bump the lead to 67-60. Michael scored 17 points and Martin had 12 and eight rebounds with six assists to lead Elmhurst in the last two departments. Wessels scored 18 to head the Augustana attack while Harrigan had 15, McAdams-Thornton 14 and Joe Baumann scored 14 as well. Harrigan led Augustana in rebounding with seven. In the second half Elmhurst shot .594 (19-32) from the field and Augustana scorched the nets at a .577 (15-26) clip in the final 20 minutes. The Bluejays won their fourth straight road game and move to 14-6 overall and 6-3 in the CCIW while Augustana falls to 13-7 and 5-4.
