Albright 81, Widener 68

CHESTER, Pa. — Albright’s Matt Kieselowsky and Trevor Deeter each scored a game-high 20 points as the Lions (15-6, 9-2 Commonwealth Conference) defeated Widener (12-9, 6-5 Commonwealth Conference) 81-68 Tuesday night at the Schwartz Athletic Center.

Junior guard Brandon Blakey had a season-high 18 points for the Pioneers. He had ten of his 18 points in the first five minutes of the contest as Widener took a 17-7 lead with 15:41 left in the first half.

Albright then went on a 13-3 run to tie the score at 20-all with 9:53 left in the opening half. Junior center Ron Michael scored a basket with 8:21 left to give Widener its final lead of the contest.

The Lions, ranked second in the Middle Atlantic region, held the lead for the remainder of the game after Andy Winebrenner hit a layup with 7:23 left. Albright would go up as much as seven, as the Lions went into the intermission with a 43-36 lead.

Widener would get as close as eight points in the second half, as a three-pointer by senior forward Casey Stitzel cut the Albright lead to 53-45 with 15:40 left.

Albright went on a 9-0 run to go up 17 points and led by double-digits the rest of the way.

Ben Gallagher and Shane Harvey each scored 11 points for Albright, who held a 38-31 rebounding edge.

Sophomore forward Malcolm Thomas and senior guard Matt Sheaffer each had 11 points for Widener. Michael finished with a game-high nine rebounds.

Widener hosts Susquehanna at 3 p.m. on Saturday in its home finale.
