Roger Williams 79, Wentworth 61

BOSTON, Mass. — Junior guard Chris Cormier (Trumbull, CT) scored 19 points and freshman forward Daniel Gumb (Patterson, N.Y.) chipped in with 18 points, six rebounds, and a pair of blocked shots as Roger Williams (10-10, 9-3 Commonwealth Coast Conference) downed Wentworth (6-15, 4-9) in a CCC contest at Tansey Gymnasium.

Trailing 12-10 5:18 into the game, Wentworth used a 10-2 run over the next 4:02 to take a 20-14 lead. During the run, senior forward Carmino DeMercurio (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) had six points. However, the Hawks answered with a 23-10 spurt and took a 37-30 lead with 1:43 left. Cormier had nine points during that stretch. Roger Williams would lead 37-34 at the half.

The Hawks upped their lead to as much as eight (42-34) early in the second half before Wentworth took the lead (45-44) with an 11-2 run. Junior forward Frankie Hall (Boston, Mass.) had seven points. The lead would be short-lived, though, as Roger Williams used a 21-2 run over a 10:00 stretch to take an 18-point lead. The Hawks would lead by as much as 26 late in the game, before the Leopards cut the final margin to 18.

Junior guard Ryan Keaton (Smithtown, N.Y.) had 13 points and sophomore forward Brandon Parrish (Lincoln, R.I.) chipped in with 12 points, six rebounds, seven assists, and five steals.

For Wentworth, freshman guard Jason DaCosta (Cambridge, Mass.) had 19 points and three assists. DeMercurio (10 points, nine rebounds, and four assists) and freshman guard Sherrad Prezzie-Blue (Norwalk, Conn.) scored 10 points.
