Rivier jumped out to an early 8-5 lead before Suffolk went on a 14-0 run to take a
19-8 lead. The Raiders fought back however, cutting the deficit to two, 31-29, with more than seven minutes to play in the half.
Rivier was able to finish the first half strong, going on a 10-0 run to end the frame and cut the Suffolk lead to single digits at 49-44. McMahon scored seven of his 30 points during the run and 25 of his 30 in the first half.
Although Suffolk led by only five points going into the second half, the Rams quickly piled on the points. Sophomore Clinton Lassiter (Boston, MA) scored eight of his ten points in a seven-minute span to start the half and give Suffolk a 66-50 lead.
Rivier began to mount a comeback late in the game, going on a 9-0 run with just over four minutes remaining and the Rams ahead by 22, but it was not enough as Suffolk completed the 15-point win.
Suffolk shot well from beyond the three-point line, connecting on ten three-point attempts to collect one-third of their points from treys. Sophomore Brad Schoonmaker (Marion, CT) made five of his six three-point attempts and finished with 17 points.
The Rams were led by junior transfer Josh Morelock (Poplar Grove, IL), who recorded a double double with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Morelock also had three steals for Suffolk.
Senior co-captain Chris Emma (Braintree, MA) had 14 points and six assists for the Rams. Sophomore starter John Murphy (North Reading, MA) scored 10 points and added three assists for the winning side.
Rivier junior Matt Green (Merrimack, NH) scored 14 points on 7 of 9 shooting from the field. Rivier co-captain McMahon added five steals and five assists to his 30-point night.
Suffolk improves to 7-13 overall and 5-8 in the GNAC while Rivier falls to 8-12 on the season and 4-9 in the GNAC. Suffolk will take on GNAC rival Daniel Webster College Thursday night at Regan Gymnasium.
