The Framingham State College men’s basketball team(12-8, 6-3 MASCAC) was able to hold off Worcester State (11-9, 4-5) down the stretch to pick up a 72-69 victory at home tonight. The Rams improve to 6-3 in the MASCAC and remain among the conference leaders
The Rams jumped out to an early 20 point first half lead behind 20 first half points from senior guard Chris Feeney who connected on 7 of 11 shots in the first half. The Lancers were able to come back and went to the half only down two as they received 16 first half points from junior Ryan Hopkins, who finished with a team high 18, including 4 of 6 from behind the arc.
In the second half the game was tied until Framingham senior guard Paul Tanglis hit a 3 pointer with 1:42 left to give the Rams a 67-64 lead. Worcester came down and missed and Framingham State was able to grab the rebound. Tanglis, who finished with17 points and 6 assists, then hit two free throws to push the lead to 69-64. Worcester came down and had three chances to score but were unable to score. They remained 5 down when Framingham missed two free throws. The Lancers cut the lead to 69-66 on a layup by senior Jason Garrett with just 22 seconds remaining. Tanglis hit two more free throws to push the lead back to 5, but Worcester cut the lead to two with a three pointer off and inbounds play with 12 seconds left. Tanglis hit another free throw to push the lead back to 3 and Worcester did not connect on a last second three.
The Rams next game is Saturday at Salem State at 3:00 while the Lancers travel to Anna Maria on Thursday for an 8:00 game.
