Delaware Valley 61, Drew 52

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. — Bridget Golden and Rachel Joyce scored 17 points apiece to lead the Delaware Valley College women’s basketball team to a 61-52 home victory over Drew University in a Freedom Conference game.

The win snapped a five-game losing streak for the Aggies as they improved to 9-10 overall and 2-8 in conference play while the Rangers fell to 12-10, 4-7.

Golden did most of her damage from the foul line as she was 9-for-17. The senior center also added 15 rebounds and three steals. Joyce was 5-for-9 from the field and 6-for-7 from the charity stripe. The sophomore forward also grabbed four boards in the victory.

Delaware Valley scored the first 11 points of the game, all coming in the first 4:24 of the contest. However, the Aggies managed just 11 points in the rest of the half and held a slim, 22-19 lead at the break.

The Rangers took two early leads in the second half, but Delaware Valley regained the lead for good at 28-27, as Golden hit a field goal with 14:23 remaining. The Aggies later built a six points lead, but Jennifer Weldon scored five straight for Drew to make it a 43-42 contest with 6:22 remaining.

However, Joyce scored five in a row and Moira Donohue hit a layup to give Delaware Valley an eight-point advantage and it never looked back.

Kate McCarthy had a strong game for the Aggies off the bench as she notched eight points, six rebounds and three assists. Shannon O’Neill contributed eight points, five rebounds, five steals and four assists in the victory.

Weldon had a game-high 22 points for the Rangers while Melissa Kraft added 19 points, including five, 3-pointers.
