St. Thomas 79, St. Olaf 64

NORTHFIELD, Mn — Second place St. Thomas outshoots Oles

The University of St. Thomas had four players in double figures and shot 50 percent from the three-point line as they beat St. Olaf men's basketball 79-64 Monday night in Skoglund Center.

Pat Fraser (Sr., Bloomington, Minn/ Jefferson) scored ten points in three minutes bringing St. Olaf to within nine with eight minutes left to play, but St. Thomas' Bryan Schnettler (So., Sartell, Minn.) hit a three after a Fraser four-point play to put the game out of reach.

Leading St. Olaf was Jon Bain (So., Austin, Minn.) with 18 points including 8-for-12 from the freethrow line. Fraser finished with 14 points going 5-of-6 from the field 1-for-1 from three-point range and 3-of-3 from the freethrow line.

St. Thomas' Schnettler contributed 16 points off the bench including 4-of-7 from long range; Isaac Rosefelt (So., St. Paul, Minn./ St. Thomas Academy), the MIAC's leading rebounder dropped 18 points; Sean Sweeny (Jr., St. Paul, Minn./ Cretin-Derham Hall), the MIAC's assist leader had 17 points and nine assists; and Joey Schimek (Jr., Prior Lake, Minn.) added a double-double 13 points and 12 rebounds.

The Oles shot well, going 43 percent from the field and 35 percent from beyond the arc, but St. Thomas shot 46 percent from the field and 50 percent from three.

The loss gives St. Olaf their sixth straight putting them at 3-14 in the MIAC.

The Oles take on Gustavus Adolphus Wednesday night in St. Peter starting at 7:30 p.m.
