Tim Smallwood scored 8 of 12 Marywood points in overtime and hit all six of his free-throw attempts in the extra frame to propel Marywood to the win. Marywood stayed in the game thanks to great perimeter defense, limiting Alvernia to 1 of 17 shooting (5.88%) from three-point land.
The win also keeps Marywood (8-14, 5-8 PAC) in the thick of the PAC playoff hunt. Alvernia, meanwhile, falls to 14-8 (8-5 PAC). Smallwood had a game high 23 points on the night, while Joe Buczko had 17 and Lawrence Tompkins had 15 for the Pacers. Buczko also pulled down a game-high 10 boards.
Alvernia's Chris Talley had 22 points on 9 of 18 shooting, while Lamar Brickus and Zach Straining each chipped in 14. Marywood hosts Eastern University Wednesday night at 8:00 pm, while Alvernia hosts Wesley in Reading Wednesday at 8:00 as well.
