The Southwestern Pirates (16-5, 8-2) went into the halftime beak down by one point, 27-26, to the Millsaps Majors (7-13 4-6) Sunday afternoon in Jackson. But adjustments made at halftime by the Pirates along with cold shooting in the second half from the Majors led to a 15-point win for the new #1 team in the SCAC.
One of the conference's most explosive players, guard Aaron Bowser, was held in check, finishing with 11 points, but Pirate center Robert Cates shot 70 percent from the floor on his way to a team-high 14 points.
Tyler Warren led all scorers with 16 points and Rodney Rogan neared a double-double finishing with eight points and ten rebounds for the Majors. Only guard Lorenzo Bailey finished near double digits in scoring, with nine, in the loss. The Majors shot just 25 percent from the floor in second half.
The Majors have home games left with Rose-Hulman and DePauw next weekend. Both teams sit one game ahead of the Majors in the SCAC standings. Both teams also beat the Majors earlier this season in Indiana.
