Centre 80, Hendrix 67

CONWAY, Ark. — Men win fourth straight with 80-67 win

The Centre College men's basketball team won its fourth straight game, defeating Hendrix College 80-67, in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game, Sunday, Feb. 6, in Conway, AR.

With the win, the Colonels up their record to 15-6 overall and 7-4 in the SCAC. Hendrix falls to 5-15 on the year and 1-10 in league play.

Five players scored in double figures for Centre, led by freshman guard Matt Nestheide's 18 points. Nestheided made six of his nine attempts, including four of his five three-pointers.

Junior forward Coy Zerhusen and junior center Reggie Magnusson each posted a double-double. It is the second time this year the two have done it in the same game.

Zerhusen notched 14 points, 13 rebounds, two steals, two blocks and an assist. Magnusson also scored 14 points with 10 rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Freshman guard Thomas Britt tallied 12 points off the bench and sophomore forward Matt Jacobson added 11 points and six rebounds in the win.

Matt Secrease scored a game-high 22 points and pulled down a team-high eight rebounds for the Warriors. Secrease made only five of 13 from the field, but made 11 of his 12 free throw attempts. Brant Bishop notched 15 points and Justin Jaramillo added 11 points.

Hendrix opened the game on a 10-1 run to take the early lead. The Colonels missed their first seven shots before a Zerhusen basket at the 16:12 mark in the first half made the score 10-3.

The Warriors lead all but 25 seconds of the first half but would go to the locker room in a 37-37 tie. Centre shot 33.3% (12-36) in the first half while Henrix ended the half at 42.4% (14-33).

An 18-2 run by the Colonels to open the second half gave Centre a 55-39 lead. They would push the lead to as many as 22 points on three separate ocassions before ending the game with a 13-point win.

Centre shot 51.4% (18-35) in the second half to finish the game shooting 42.3% (30-71). The Warriors were held to only 27.6% (8-29) shooting in the second period and finished the game at 35.5% (22-62).

The Colonels will return to action Wednesday, Feb. 9, when they travel to Crestview Hills, Ky. to play Thomas More College. Tip-off for the non-conference contest is set for 7:30 p.m.
