Guilford received an exceptional performance from Taylor and the rest of its bench, which outscored its Eastern Mennonite counterparts, 65-29. Five players scored in double figures for the Quakers, including four reserves. Rookie Ray Edmond (Winston-Salem, NC/North Forsyth) led the club in scoring for the second straight game with 18 points on seven-of-10 shooting from the floor. Classmate Caleb Kimbrough (Carrboro, NC/Chapel Hill) contributed a career-best 14 points and was the lone Guilford starter in double-digit scoring. Taylor, usually the Quakers' third-string post player, saw extended playing time due to foul trouble and an injury to rookie center Ben Strong (Chapel Hill, NC/Chapel Hill). He responded with 10 points and 10 rebounds in the second half.
Guilford led 49-47 at halftime and never trailed in the second half. After the Quakers grabbed a 60-52 edge, Eastern Mennonite rallied to within three points on a Jason Sager (Woodstock, VA/Central) three-pointer with 12:24 to play. Guilford answered with a 12-5 spurt and took a 10-point lead that grew to as many as 15 late in the game.
