The victory moves Wooster to 20-1, marking its ninth-straight season of reaching the 20-win plateau.
With Wabash (10-11, 7-5 NCAC) leading by three, James Cooper started the rally for the Scots. He made a pair of free throws with just over three minutes remaining in the opening stanza, and following a series of scoreless possessions, added a jumper and a lay-up around the one-minute mark to give Wooster a 31-28 lead.
On the Scots’ final possession before the break, Tim Vandervaart was fouled going to the basket. He made the first free throw and missed the second, but Blake Mealer was there for the put-back right before the buzzer to extend Wooster’s lead to six (34-28).
The Scots carried that momentum into the second half, as they connected on their first eight field goals, while during the same stretch, forcing the Little Giants into five turnovers and 2-for-6 shooting from the floor, which made it a 52-32 game.
Wooster’s lead never dipped below 18 for the final 14 minutes.
The Scots had a very balanced effort with 11 players getting into the scorebook, and none with more than 12 points. Tom Port scored a game-high dozen, connecting on 5-of-8 field goals, including one 3-pointer, and 1-of-2 from the free throw line.
Matt Schlingman contributed 11 tallies, while Cooper and Vandervaart added 10 points apiece. Vandervaart also pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds for his third-straight double-double, to go with a game-high four steals.
No Wabash players finished in double figures, as Caleb Lyttle and Andrew Zimmer took team scoring honors, each with eight markers.
Overall, Wooster shot very well, as it was at 62.8 percent from the field (27-for-43) before going 1-for-8 during the last five minutes of play, however, the Scots did struggle a little from the free throw line (14-for-23) on Saturday.
The Little Giants finished at a clip of .354 from the floor (17-for-48).
Wooster, which remains tied for first in the NCAC (11-1), hits the road for its next three games, starting with a trip to Allegheny College (8-11, 5-6 NCAC) on Wednesday. Opening tip in Meadville, Pa., is set for 7:30 p.m.
