Western New England 91, Emmanuel 72

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Sophomore forward Jim Bayne (Bristol, CT) exploded for a career high 28 points and pulled down 14 rebounds for his 12th double double of the season as Western New England College defeated visiting Emmanuel College, 91-72, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference game. Bayne was 11-of-16 from the field and 6-for-6 from the foul line.

Junior guard Jon Godbout (Bristol, CT) added 18 points and dished out eight assists, while senior forward Anthony Charbatji (Attleboro, MA) also had 18 points (13 in the second half) as the Golden Bears improved their record to 13-7 (9-4 GNAC), which surpasses last year's win total of 12.

The victory avenged an earlier 72-67 loss to the Saints back on January 11 in Boston and was the third straight win for Western New England College who hit the 90-point mark for the first time this season.

Emmanuel took an early 10-2 lead before WNEC came back for a 39-25 half-time advantage. The Golden Bears led by 20 at 49-29 following a three-pointer by Charbatji with 17:31 remaining in the game. The Saints marched back by going on a 21-8 run to pull with 57-50 following a three-pointer by senior guard Keven James (Indianapolis, IN) at the 10:41 mark.

WNEC responded with a 23-10 run for an 80-60 lead with 3:41 left to break the game open.

Senior guard Bobby Brown (Syracuse, UT) led Emmanuel with 15 points while James and senior forward Albert Hayle (Brooklyn, NY) each added 12 points coming off the bench. Hayle now has 999 career points.

Emannuel, which had a three-game win streak come to an end, is now 11-8 and 9-4 in the GNAC.

Western New England College shot a season 57.9% from the field (33-for-57) in winning at home for the eighth time in nine contests.
