The Colonials, 18-2 and 8-2 in the Little East Conference received another outstanding performance from senior guard Greg Cole (Terrytown, NY) who canned a game-high 18 points on six-of-nine shooting from the floor including five-of-seven buckets from beyond the three-point arch.
UMass Dartmouth raced to a six-point lead, 12-6 on a lay up by Tishon Crawley (Bridgeport, CT) with 14:10 remaining in the first stanza.
WestConn then went on a 21-4 run over the next seven minutes and took an 11-point lead on Cole’s three-pointer, 27-16. It held onto its lead the rest of the way.
The Corsairs would come within four points after their own 7-0 run, 27-23, but would not get closer before intermission.
The Colonials held a double-digit lead for the entire second half, building their biggest lead, 58-39, 3:25 in on a lay in by Jay Reginatto (Torrington, CT).
Reginatto and Kimani Crawford (West Hartford, CT) finished with 17 points apiece. Reginatto dished out a game-high five assists for WestConn.
UMass Dartmouth, now 9-11 overall and 3-7 in the league, was led by Crawley who had 16 points. Chris Lapriore (Grafton, MA) had 13 points while Joe Britto (New Bedford, MA) added 11 markers.
Senior forward Brice Assie (Bridgeport, CT) continued his dominance underneath the hoop for the Colonials, collecting 12 points and grabbing nine rebounds. He was hampered with foul trouble in the first half and had to sit for 16 of the 20 first-half minutes.
The Colonials travel to Eastern Connecticut on Tuesday for a conference game at 7:30 p.m.
