UW-Stevens Point 83, UW-Eau Claire 55

STEVENS POINT, Wis. — Close to becoming the all-time leading scorer in UW-Stevens Point men’s basketball history, Jason Kalsow incredibly had never had a huge offensive day.

That is, until now.

The senior forward hit the 30-point mark for the first time in his career in finishing with another solid all-around performance of 31 points, seven assists and five rebounds as the Pointers handled UW-Eau Claire 83-55 on Saturday at the Quandt Fieldhouse.

Kalsow, normally a consistent 20 points per game scorer, hit 11 of his 15 shots and dominated the inside and outside, hitting three three-pointers along the way. He now has 1,641 career points to move within eight points of Tim Naegeli for first place on the school’s all-time list. The Pointers host UW-Whitewater, where Kalsow’s father, Tom, played his college ball, on Wednesday. UW-Stevens Point remained tied for first place in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with UW-Platteville and improved to 18-2 overall with the victory.

UW-Stevens Point cruised to an early 13-2 lead and led 24-9 while hitting nine of its first 14 shots. The Blugolds crawled to within 25-19 with 7:40 left in the first half, but Tamaris Relerford followed with one of his four three-pointers and the Blugolds came no closer than nine points the rest of the way. Relerford finished with a season-high 12 points for the Pointers.

The Pointers led 40-27 at halftime and opened the second half with a 14-4 run to build a 23-point lead.

For the game, UW-Stevens Point was 13-for-24 from three-point range as Nick Bennett was three-for-four from behind the arc and also had 12 points. The Pointers connected on six of eight three-pointers in the second half and shot 52.7 percent for the contest.

UW-Eau Claire was just two-for-16 from behind the arc and shot 35.3 percent from the field for the game. Dan Archambault scored 19 points and Casey Drake had 15 to lead the Blugolds.
