Transy entered the contest with a one-game margin over Hanover in the HCAC race. The Pioneers improved to 17-3 overall and 8-1 in the league with its fourth win in a row and ninth in 10 outings. Bluffton, which trailed by 26 at halftime and as many as 43 in the game, fell to 11-10 and 4-6 in the HCAC.
Transy shot at a 65.6 percent clip in the first half, jumping to a 28-11 lead on a three by reserve Riley O'Neal with 8:58 to play in the period. O'Neal came off the bench to hit three bombs in the first half and finished with 17 points for the game.
O'Neal hit another three, Joey Searle, who led Transy with 21 points, had a traditional three-point play, and Marc Bain added another triple off a Ryan Atwell pass to give the Pioneers a 52-26 edge at intermission. The cushion grew to 32 when Robert Pendleton and O'Neal made threes, sandwiched around a Searle score, making it 69-37 with 10 minutes to go.
Head coach Brian Lane cleared his bench with just over five minutes to go and Transy leading 79-47.
Matt Finke had 10 points, six rebounds, and six assists for the Pioneers and Pendleton finished with nine points, hitting all three of his three-pointers. Bain had eight off the bench, including two threes, and Ryan Kizer contributed nine points and three rebounds in just four minutes of action. For the game, Transy hit 33 of 57 from the field and 13 of 20 from long range. The 90 total points were also a season-high.
Eric Sweet and Scott Bergman had 12 points each for the Beavers. Bergman came into the game averaging 22 points a game, 26 in HCAC play. He had 30 in Transy's previous meeting with Bluffton.
Bluffton shot 38.8 percent from the field and 29 percent from long range. The Beavers outrebounded the Pioneers, 31-30.
Transy will travel to Hanover for an HCAC showdown on Wednesday. Game-time is 7:30 p.m. The Pioneers host Manchester on Feb. 12, their final regular season home appearance. Senior Day will be observed for fourth-year players Robbie Huellemeier and Nate Valentine.
