The victory over St. Lawrence ends Vassar's three-game losing streak and improves the 2004-05 record to 11,-9, 4-5. It was the second victory of the season against the Saints. On January 21, Vassar won in Poughkeepsie, 66-62. With the loss St. Lawrence falls to (5-11, 3-6)
Avitable regained his near-miss shooting touch against the Saints (7-11, 2-2) in only 24 minutes of action. Winton was equally adept, connecting on 6-12 shots from the floor and 2-5 from 3-point range. Not to be overlooked in the box score was the solid play of sophomore forward William Kieffer (Chappaqua, NY/Horace Greely) who shot 4-5 from the floor and grabbed eight rebounds.
The game was a see-saw affair for the first nine minutes of the first half. Vassar took control and ended the first half up by 14.
At intermission, Avitabile's play had set the tone; he had scored 10 points and
grabbed 9 rebounds.
The second half was more of the same. Vassar led by as many as 28 points, and St. Lawrence never got within 10.
Vassar returns to campus next weekend to close out the home portion of the 2004-2005 season with a Friday evening game against Union and a Saturday afternoon tilt against Skidmore.
