Salem State 101, Fitchburg State 50

Salem, MA — Ifesinachi Anosike scored 12 points, corralled 21 rebounds and recorded 6 blocks as host Salem State defeated Fitchburg State 101-50 in MASCAC men’s basketball action Saturday. The Vikings shot an eye-popping 72.1% (37 of 52) from the floor in the victory, easily the best in the MASCAC this season.

SSC (17-3, 6-1 MASCAC) scored the first 12 points of the game en route to opening a 50-26 advantage at the half. Anosike, who connected on all five of his shots from the field, had an amazing 20 defensive rebounds on the afternoon. Shawn Bloom scored a game-high 20 points for Salem State while Alex Finn added 16 points off the bench. Allen Reid tallied 13 points and dished out 6 assists for Vikings.

Salem, who outscored the Falcons 51-18 in the paint, now has a two-game lead in the loss column over Framingham State, Westfield State and Bridgewater State. The previous best shooting performance this season in the conference was held by Fitchburg State. The Falcons had shot 62.3% (33 of 53) from the field in a win at MCLA on January 27th.

Senior Jim Prignano paced Fitchburg State (4-16, 2-6 MASCAC) with 15 points. Freshman Peter Uzoma came off the bench to add 11 points and 7 rebounds for the Falcons.
