GO TO 10-1 IN CUNYAC
Preseason All-American center Shacun Malave (DeWitt Cinton/Bronx, NY) had his best all-around game since December on senior day at New York City College of Technology today with 25 points, 16 rebounds and five blocks to lead the Yellow Jackets to a 89-72 win over CUNYAC South Division rival Brooklyn College. Even though the Yellow Jackets (15-5, 10-1 CUNYAC) are amidst a five game win streak, the 6’7” defending CUNYAC Player of the Year had missed the team’s last three games, and was welcomed back to the squad on a day honoring its three players soon to depart.
Jason Senior (Satellite Academy/Brooklyn, NY), another member of that triumvirate, was also outstanding with 18 points, nine rebounds, five assists and three blocks. Senior guard Nkosi Hamilton (August Martin / Queens, NY), the only male four-year senior on the team, was mired in foul trouble and collected only five points, four rebounds and four assists. But Hamilton was treated to a 1,000th career point commemorative basketball prior to the game for scoring the grand in the team’s last contest.
Brooklyn (10-11, 3-8 CUNYAC) actually led 25-18 with just under eight minutes remaining in the first half when senior guard Steve Raimondo (Xaverian / Brooklyn, NY) nailed his fifth trey from long distance (for 15 of the team’s 25 points), but City Tech climbed back slowly and took their first lead of the game at 40-38 just under two minutes into the second half and never looked back during that 18-1 scoring run. Raimondo, who scored a total of 18 points in the first half was held scoreless in the final half.
The Bridges were led by four players in double digits, Raimondo and junior guard Jeffrey Jean-Baptiste (Holy Cross / Queens, NY) with 18 points, senior guard Jason Fulford (ICE / Brooklyn, NY) with 16 points and junior center Tes Choudri (Forest Hills / Queens, NY) with 15 points and eight rebounds.
Junior guard Kareem Hanley (Canarsie/Brooklyn, NY) came off the bench to score 11 points, while sophomore center Terrin Johnson (Curtis / Brooklyn, NY) added eight points and ten rebounds for City Tech.
The Yellow Jackets are finished with their home slate for the season, with four more road games prior to the CUNYAC / Con Edison Basketball Tournament at Lehman College, February 20-25.
