Maryville (Mo.) 83, Fontbonne 72

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Juniors Matt Regan and Ben Hebl combined for 43 points to help lead the Maryville University men's basketball team to an 83-72 victory over St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) rival Fontbonne University. The Saints improve to 9-11 overall and 6-3 in conference play, while Fontbonne drops to 4-16 on the season and 3-6 in the SLIAC.

Maryville led by as many as 12 points in the first half, but the Griffins were able to cut that lead to just two heading into halftime. Fontbonne came out at the start of the second half and tied the game at 37-37 on a made jumper by Sean Munton, but that would be the last time the Saints let the Griffins get that close.

Regan recorded his fourth double-double of the season with game-highs of 23 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Saints to victory. He also added four assists, four steals and one block for the game, while shooting 10-of-14 (.714) from the field, 2-of-2 (1.000) from behind the arc and 1-of-2 (.500) from the charity stripe.

Hebl finished with 20 points, five rebounds, and three steals, while junior Ryan Klein netted 16 points, grabbed six boards and dished out three assists.

Leading the Griffins were Kennard Davis and Andrew Almany with 22 and 11 points respectively. Davis also grabbed five rebounds, while Matt McCarthy also chipped in with 10 points and five rebounds.

Maryville will be back in action on Wednesday, February 9, when they host Westminster College in a 6:00 pm SLIAC matchup at the Simon Athletic Center. Wednesday is also Red & White Mania Night at the University.
