Seyboth connected on seven second-half 3-pointers, including four straight in the first 4:15 of the second half to spark a 17-7 run by the Blazers that overturned a three-point deficit at intermission.
With the win, Elms College won for the fifth time in its last six games to improve to 13-7 overall. Newbury College, which received a team-high 15 points and 10 rebounds from sophomore forward Sonny Abraham (Lynn, MA), lost its ninth straight game to fall to 2-16 overall.
After the Blazers opened the game with a 16-4 run in the opening 10 minutes of the first half, the Nighthawks responded with a 29-14 run to close the half. Junior center Kyle O’Connor (Georgetown, MA) dropped in consecutive 3-pointers in the final minute of the opening half to give Newbury a 33-30 lead at intermission.
From there, however, Elms College’s outside shooters took over, as Seyboth and sophomore guard John Ancrum (Harlem, NY) combined for all nine of their team’s second half 3-pointers.
In addition to Seyboth, three other players reached double figures for the Blazers in the victory. Freshman forward Renato Lindmets (Springfield, MA) registered his sixth double-double of the year with 18 points and a game-high 16 rebounds, junior forward Lonnie Branyon III (West Haven, CT) had 13 points and Ancrum finished with 10 points and a game-high nine assists.
Freshman forward Walky Magliore (Waltham, MA) scored 11 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, and junior forward Matthew Stanton (Lynnfield, MA) added 10 points as the other two Newbury players to reach double figures.
