Wins Fourth Straight
The Clark University women’s basketball cruised past MIT 70-45 in New England Women’s & Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Saturday in the Kneller Athletic Center. The Cougars used an 11-2 run in the last three minutes of the first half and took a 37-22 lead into the locker room. Sophomore Ashley Auclair (Williamsburg, MA/Hampshire) and junior Andrea Comen (Holden, MA/Wachusett Regional) led Clark with six and five points respectively during the run. The Cougars out scored the Engineers 22-9 in the first ten minutes of the second half to push their lead to 28-points en route to their fourth straight win. Clark held MIT to just six field goals in the second half and forced 31 turnovers for the game. Auclair ended the game with her second straight double-double and ninth overall, a game-high 20 points and 11 rebounds. Comen added 15 points, 12 assists and five steals while senior captain Abby Pineo (Gardner, MA/Gardner) chipped in 11 points, four rebounds and three steals. MIT’s junior Karen Kinnaman (Woodstock, NY/Onteora) led the way for the Engineers with nine points and eight rebounds. Sophomores Sharon Prange (Arlington, VA/Washington-Lee) and Cherelle Walls (Memphis, TN/East High) chipped in nine points each. MIT fell to 3-15 overall and 0-9 in the NEWMAC. Clark improved to 11-9 and 4-5 in the NEWMAC. Clark will travel to Coast Guard for a NEMWAC contest on Tuesday, February 8 for a 7:00 pm tip-off.
