Rochester 64, Emory 61

ROCHESTER, NY — Brendan McAllister (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) made a career high seven three point goals, five in the second half, as the University of Rochester rallied to defeat Emory University, 64-61, in the Louis Alexander Palestra here tonight.

Seth Hauben (Newton, MA/Newton South) had 17 points and 12 rebounds for the Yellowjackets (7-1 University Athletic Association, 16-3 overall). Jeff Juron (Niskayuna, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) made four free throws in the last 15 seconds to help clinch the win. He finished with nine points.

Jeff Hall (Rockville, MD/Walter Johnson) and Chase Fawsett (Orlando, FL/Trinity Prep) scored 15 each for Emory (3-5 UAA, 11-7).

McAllister’s seven three-pointers are one shy of the Rochester single-game record and one shy of the Palestra record.

UR has won six straight and 11 of the last 12.

The Eagles ran off a 13-0 spurt late in the first half to take a 35-28 lead at halftime. Hall sank a pair of three-pointers in the run.

McAllister hit three 3-pointers in the first 4:11 of the second half as Rochester moved into a 44-39 lead. Rochester went up by six, 47-41, on a twisting layup by Gabe Perez (Corpus Christi, TX/Calallen) with 13:27 to play. Emory ran off another 13-0 run, this one covering five minutes, for a 54-47 lead with 8:26 to play. Fawsett scored seven of the 13 points.

Emory was ahead by three, 56-53, before Hauben hit a runner in the lane and Tim Brackney (Columbia, MD/Archbishop Spaulding) sank a three-point goal from left wing to put the Yellowjackets ahead to stay, 58-56. Hauben and Fawsett traded layups, giving Rochester a 60-58 lead with 1:23 left.

McAllister missed a 3-pointer with 52 seconds left, but Juron rebounded. He missed a 3-pointer with 17 seconds left. Hauben rebounded and got the ball to Juron who was fouled immediately.

After Juron made two free throws, Hall sank a three-pointer out of the right corner with 7.8 seconds left. Juron was fouled with 6.3 seconds left. He made both free throws. Emory rushed the ball upcourt where Hall’s three-point attempt was short at the buzzer.
