Millsaps 67, Trinity (Texas) 64

JACKSON, Miss; — Trinity's 12-game win streak snapped

The Millsaps Majors (7-12, 4-5) upset SCAC frontrunner and the nation's #6 ranked team (www.D3hoops.com) Trinity Tigers in the Hangar Dome Friday night 67-64.

The Tigers, who are the defending SCAC champs, start five seniors compared to the Majors, who start three freshmen and two juniors. Freshmen Sandro Norris and Rodney Rogan led the Majors in scoring. Norris had 17 points, including two 3-pointers and Rogan had 15, with three 3-pointers.

The Majors played an uptempo style that forced the big bodies of the Tigers to run the floor the entire game. The Tigers started the game with a 9-0 run, but the Majors would take the lead and a ten-point halftime lead 39-29. The Majors hit 7-17 three-point attempts in the first half.

The Majors' largest lead at one point in the second half was 15, although the Tigers would get that down to five just minutes later. The Majors led by 13 with six minutes left after Norris hit a three pointer, but the Tigers would cut that lead back down to three with 1:34 remaining by hitting free throws and two 3-pointers.

Then Norris brought the Hangar Dome fans to their feet when he gathered a rebound and went up for his second dunk of the night, only to have the shot blocked by the 6' 10" Tiger center, Sean Devins, the SCAC career block leader, but Rogan grabbed the rebound and layed it back up and in.

The Majors led at that point by five, 67-62. The Tigers would get off another three point attempt that fell short and Tiger Andy Bates would be fouled on the offensive rebound attempt.

Bates made both free throws, but the Majors got the ball in to Tyler Warren preserving the Majors biggest win of the season 67-64.

The Majors had 23 points off turnovers compared to the Tigers four, but the Tigers won the battle of the paint, as expected. The Tigers big men had 22 points points down low compared to the Majors 16 and and the Tigers had 13 second chance points compared to seven for the Majors.

Warren finished with 13 points and five rebounds and Justin LeBlanc had nine points including two layups amongst the trees of Trinity. Rogan finished with six boards and Norris had three assists, two boards, and one block.
