Junior transfer Nate Maurer (Pittsburgh, PA/Linsly School) led all scores as he tied his season high 29 points and recorded her 1,000th career point with 13:18 left in the first half in the mist of a Tartan 8-1 run. Maurer is a transfer from Grove City where he recorded 740 of his 1,026 points.
After seeing 10 lead changes in the first half Carnegie Mellon broke it open going on a 19-9 run to end the half taking a 42-33 lead. The Tartans started the second half where they left off building a 70-59 lead with 9:18 left on the clock, but Case went on a 16-4 run to take over the lead 75-74 at the 3:59 mark. That was the last time the Spartans led as Carnegie Mellon regained the lead on a jumper by Maurer with 1:01 to play.
Carnegie Mellon had four players in double figures leading Maurer finishing with a game season 29 points and pulled down 10 boards for his third double-double on the season. Junior Clayton Barlow-Wilcox (Brookline, MA/Brookline) chipped in with 16, senior Michael Divens (Trafford, PA/Penn Trafford) had 15 points, and senior Eliot Goren (Silver Spring, MS/Bullis School) finished with 12 points and six assists for the Tartans.
The Spartans were led by Carson Oren (South Bend, IN) as he had a team high 29 points and ten rebounds. Lafe Funso (Chesterland, OH) added 13 points and nine rebounds as freshman Mason Conrad had 11 points.
Carnegie Mellon will be back in action Sunday, February 6 as they host Emory University. The tip is scheduled for 1:00pm.
