McMurry started out slowly, trailing most of the first half, before eventually closing within 39-34 going into the locker room. The first 20 minutes ended when Tennison scored a lay-in off an in-bounds play with seconds left on the clock. But on Schreiner's ensuing possession, Jonathan Young nailed a 3-pointer at the buzzer.
However, the Indians' inside game took its toll in the second stanza for a smaller, quicker Mountaineers squad. McMurry outscored Schreiner 56-46 while making 17 of 32 field goal attempts for 53.1 percent. The Indians also made 30 of 43 free throws, converting seven more than their opponents attempted (23).
For the game, McMurry shot 47.5 percent from the floor to Schreiner's 50.0. But the Indians had 13 steals off 17 SU turnovers and held a 36-33 rebounding edge.
Also scoring in double figures for McMurry was Kelon Lewis with 13 points, Terence Mirabal had 12 and J.R. Williams, 11.
Jarel Hall paced Schreiner with 21 points, followed by Young's 20, Kevin Deans had 11 and Justin Evans, 10.
