AUSTIN, Tx. — Lobos and Tornadoes Duke it Out in 114-101 Sul Ross Victory

02/03/05- The Sul Ross Lobos had their work cut out for them as they left Austin with a 114-101 ASC win over the Concordia Tornadoes Thursday night. Concordia looked new and improved compared to their trip to the Gallego Center last week. The Tornadoes kept the scoring hatch open as they entered triple digit figures for the first time this season and the Lobos’ second. Sully reached 100 points last week in a 104-76 win over Concordia at the Gallego Center. Thursday’s game proved to be the highest scoring contest for both schools for the 2004-2005 run.

Sul Ross had perhaps their best shooting performance of the year on Thursday as the Lobos hit 40 of 67 shots from the floor, good for 60%. Sully hit 7 of 13 shots from long distance in the first half but bottomed out in the second half missing all five of their three-point attempts to go 40% for the contest. The Lobos shot 82% from the free throw line for the game and shot 100% at 5 for 5 in the first half.

Four Lobos hit double figures in Thursday night’s action. Sid Hooper (Andrews) put up 32 points for the evening with 6 assists. Arturo Escobar (El Paso) landed 20 points while Justin Steward (Texico, NM) had one of his biggest night’s as he tallied 17 points. El Paso Native Larry Reese chipped in 12 more points in the win. Rockland Owens (Wharton) pulled down a team best 9 rebounds while Rick Herrera (Alamogordo, NM) contributed 9 assists. Steward was credited with 4 blocks against the Tornadoes.

The win places Sul Ross at 14-5 for the year and 12-5 in ASC play.

The Lobos will be in Belton on Saturday for action against Mary Hardin-Baylor.
