New York City Tech 73, York (N.Y.) 61

JAMAICA, NY — HAMLITON REACHES GRAND MILESTONE;
CITY TECH EARNS 4TH STRAIGHT MEN’S WIN
New York City College of Technology senior guard Nkosi Hamilton (August Martin / Queens, NY) reached the 1,000 career point mark on a second half free throw to help lead the visiting Yellow Jackets to a 73-61 CUNYAC victory over York College.

Besides earning the teams' fourth consecutive win, City Tech (14-5, 9-1 CUNYAC) won its ninth game in its last ten tries, and set a new school record for CUNYAC victories with nine, eclipsing the 8-5 conference mark set last season.

For the third straight game the Yellow Jackets were led by sophomore center Terrin Johnson (Curtis / Staten Island, NY) with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Last season, Johnson was named CUNYAC Rookie of the Year while playing at York and for longtime head coach Ron St. John. He transferred to City Tech during the summer to go to college within walking distance of his Brooklyn home, but did not play until January, therefore missing the first matchup between the two CUNYAC South Division rivals, which Tech won, 86-72.

Hamilton, a fifth-year senior, who missed most of last season due to injury, needed only four points in the game to become the second City Tech men’s player ever to reach the 1,000 point milestone. Actually, a stingy defensive effort by York held the point guard averaging 9.5 points per game, to only two with three minutes remaining, but the 6’0” guard went to the free throw line six times in the next minute of the contest and his second make (after his only miss) put him in the record books. Hamilton finished with nine points. Coincidentally, his teammate Shacun Malave (DeWitt Clinton / Bronx, NY) became the first player in school history to earn that honor in the aforementioned win against York on December 9th.

York (8-14, 4-6) was led by sophomore guard Francis Ainoo (Beach Channel / Brooklyn, NY) with 17 points, sophomore forward Christopher Roberts (Springfield Gardens / St. Albans, NY) with 16 points and 11 rebounds and freshman guard Ivan Lynch (Graphic Arts / Brooklyn, NY) with 15 points. But York’s doom was sealed when Ainoo and Lynch both fouled out in the final minutes of the game.

City Tech junior guard Clyde Forteau (St. Raymond’s / Bronx, NY) scored 16 points and senior Jason Senior (Satellite Academy / Brooklyn, NY) contributed in every way with 14 points, six rebounds, six assists, three blocks and three steals. He even threw in two dunks and a trey, shooting 6-8 from the floor for the victors.

Both City Tech teams return to the court on Saturday, February 5th to face Brooklyn College (12:00 pm women’s game & 2:00 pm men’s game) in the final CUNYAC doubleheader at the Klitgord Center of the season. Both squads’ senior will be honored prior to each game.
