Messiah 74, Juniata 58

GRANTHAM, PA — Zach Wiernicki (Vernon, NY) scored 15 of his game high 19 points in the first half as the Messiah College Falcons (15-4, 5-3) downed the Juniata College Eagles (8-12, 3-6) 74-58 Wednesday night in Commonwealth Conference men’s basketball action.
Early on it looked as though Juniata was going to make a game of it, however, the Falcons had too many weapons for the Eagles to handle. Trailing by 8 early in the first, Messiah scored 11 unanswered points to take a three point lead. Then up 32-26 at the break, the Falcons used a 10-0 run to pull away from the Eagles. From then on it was all Messiah as they cruised to victory.
Dave Carter (Warrenton, VA) had a team high 8 rebounds to go with his 13 points and David Henninger (Carlisle, PA) added 14 points for Messiah.
For the Eagles Brain Cannon (Fallston, MD) had a game high 9 rebounds and a team high 16 points while teammate Chris Jasiota (Oil City, PA) poured in 10 points.
Messiah will travel to Reading on Saturday to play the Albright College Lions. They then will return to Brubaker Auditorium next Tuesday when they host Susquehanna University. That game will begin at 7:30pm.
