Seniors David Michalkiewicz and Greg Blaska scored 15 and 14 points, respectively, to lead the Eagles, who have sole possession of first place in the LMC. With the win, Edgewood improved its overall record to 13-8 (7-2 LMC), while the Muskies drop two games below .500 with a 9-11 mark (4-5 LMC).
Edgewood held a 30-24 lead at halftime, but extended the margin to nine points when Justin Kuhnau nailed a three-point basket on the Eagles’ first possession of the second half. Midway through the period, the Eagles went on a modest 7-0 run. The short burst of offense gave Edgewood its largest lead of the game, 60-43, with just under eight minutes to play and erased any hopes of a Lakeland comeback.
Nick Zeck scored a game-high 22 points on 9-of-12 shooting to pace the Muskies, who shot just 3-of-18 from long distance. Lakeland turned the ball over 11 times compared to seven miscues by the Eagles. Edgewood’s Seth Cooper added 13 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Charlie Averkamp pitched in 11 points and five rebounds in 11 minutes on the court.
