UW-Stevens Point vs. UW-Whitewater Dec 06
UW-Whitewater defeated Wisconsin Lutheran College 84-71 at the Recreation Center on the WLC campus in Milwaukee Saturday afternoon. The victory was the Warhawks’ sixth in a row, and upped the team’s season mark to 8-2.
Wisconsin Lutheran went on top 24-23 at 8:43 on a three-pointer by Peter Dunlop, but that would be the Warriors’ last lead. Senior guard Craig Anderson made a three point play, on a jumper and foul shot to put UW-W back in front 26-24. The Warhawks built several ten-point leads late in the first half.
Whitewater maintained a double digit lead throughout the second half, building the margin to as many as 23 points, 70-47, at 10:23.
Senior forward Melvin Williams led the Warhawks with 15 points, hitting 5-5 from the line and 5-8 from the field, with junior forward Mike Toellner adding 14 and Anderson adding 13, 11 of which came in the first half. Toellner did not miss a shot in the game, hitting all five of his shots from the field and going 4-4 from the line. Sixteen players got in to the game for Whitewater.
Wisconsin Lutheran was led by senior guard Lewis Jiles’ 20 points, with freshman guard Danny Behm adding 14. Wisconsin Lutheran is 3-8 this season.
UW-Whitewater will get back into Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Wednesday, hosting UW-Eau Claire at 7:00 in the Kachel Gym in Williams Center.
