Wooster 129, Thiel 80

WOOSTER, Ohio — On the heels of its 113-108 double-overtime loss to 17th-ranked Baldwin-Wallace College, second-ranked College of Wooster knocked down a school-record 20 three-pointers in their 129-80 win over Thiel College in the consolation game of the 43rd annual E.M. “Mose” Hole/ Wooster Kiwanis Classic at Timken Gymnasium.

Wooster (10-1) had seven players finish in double figures, led by Brandon Johnson's 21 points. Tom Port added 18 and 10 rebounds while James Cooper and Devin Fulk added 15 each, respectively.

Sophomore forward Joe Herrmann paced the Tomcats (2-9) with 21 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists. Senior forward Damien Williams added 15 points and five rebounds while junior forward Geno Biancochipped in with 14.

Wooster's three-point barrage started early, hitting 12 in the first period to take a 67-29 lead into the half.

The Fighting Scots managed to hit another eight three-pointers in the second half en route to the 49-point win.

Wooster shot 62.2 percent (46-74) from the floor and 20-of-37 (54.1%) from three-point range while finishing with a 46-42 edge in rebounds. The Tomcats shot just 36.7 percent (29-79) from the floor and 25.0 percent (5-20) from three-point range.

Thiel will return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 4 when they travel to Westminster College to open Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play. Tip off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
