The Pioneers (3-8) opened the game with a 11-4 lead behind a pair of three-pointers by Chad Sponseller and five points by Matt Rucker. The Bulldogs (6-5) tied the score at 15-15 with 15:13 to play in the half and took the lead for good with a Billy Collins free throw five minutes later.
Marietta remained close for the final 10 minutes of the half, but an 8-0 run by Adrian gave them a 54-46 lead at intermission.
The Bulldogs extended that run to 18 straight points once they came back out in the second half, as the Pioneers went scoreless for the first 3:22 of the period. Marietta was able to climb back within three points, 92-86, with 23 second to go in the game, but Adrian held on for the win.
Jeff Nokovich had a game to remember, coming two rebounds shy of a triple-double before fouling out in the final minutes. Nokovich was given the Cliff Rose Most Valuable Player Award after finishing with 17 points, 10 assists, eight rebounds and three steals.
Collins finished with a game-high 29 points, 24 of which came in the first half. He was also named to the All-Tournament team. Teammates Steve Thornton and Mike Reinhard each added 15 points in the victory.
Marietta was paced by the outside shooting of Craig Stewart, who hit four three-pointers and finished with 19 points. Matt Phillips had another solid game, collecting 16 points and nine rebounds, while Adam Rockhold and Kyle Reed added 12 and 11 points, respectively. Steve Luckhardt had seven assists in the loss.
