STATEN ISLAND, NY — Junior Jason Boone was perfect from the floor (7-7) and the foul line (9-9) as the New York University men's basketball team outlasted Emmanuel College 75-64 to win the College of Staten Island Tournament. The tournament was held on Thursday and Friday, December 29-30, in Staten Island, NY.

Boone, who scored 15 of his 23 points in the second half, also added 11 rebounds and three blocks, including a block at 9:07 of the second half which changed the pace of the game. Leading 50-49 with 10:13 left in the contest, senior Jared Kildare tapped a loose ball to Boone, who threw it down to give the Violets (9-0) a 52-49 lead. On the defensive end, Boone blocked a shot by the Saints Brian Lindsay, grabbed the rebound, and threw a pass to junior Michael DeCorso who knocked down a three-pointer to give NYU a 55-49 lead with 9:07 remaining. Emmanuel never recovered as the Violets pushed their lead to 59-49 with 7:39 left. NYU settled for the 75-64 victory.
