DUBUQUE, Iowa — The Buena Vista University men's basketball team claimed seventh place at the Clarke Holiday Tournament with an 86-68 win over Purdue University North Central. Three different Beavers scored 17 points as Buena Vista improved to 3-7 on the year.

Trailing 11-9 six minutes into the ballgame, Buena Vista win on a 17-5 run to take command of the lead for good.

Buena Vista led 41-27 at halftime. The Beavers shot 66.7 percent from the field, while Purdue North Central hit just 37.9 percent of its attempts.

Rahn Franklin, Jesse Schmidt and Andre Wagner each had 17 points for Buena Vista. Franklin was 6-of-6 from the field, while Schmidt, who had a team-high eight rebounds, hit 7-of-8 shots from the field. The point totals were career highs for both Franklin and Schmidt.

Matt Martinez led Purdue North Central, now 4-13, with a game-high 22 points, while Jeremy McCelos added 18. Andre Jones took game rebounding honors with 11.

Buena Vista will return to Iowa Conference play on Wednesday, January 4 by traveling to Cornell College.
