WOOSTER, Ohio; — Lycoming men’s basketball saw its four game winning streak snapped in sour fashion as the Warriors finished second to Baldwin-Wallace College at the “Mose” Hole/Kiwanis Classic after Friday night’s 80-63 result at the College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio. Lycoming falls to 7-5 on the season while B-W improves to 10-1.

As it is often times for many teams, the foul line proved to be the Warriors’ Achilles heel on this night. The Yellow Jackets went to the line 32 times, converting 25 attempts, contrasted with Lycoming’s 5-of-7 showing from the charity stripe.

Senior forward Jonathan Pribble led the Warriors in scoring with 14 points and collected a team-best five rebounds. Fellow senior swingman Patrick Baylor was the only other Warrior in double figures with 11 points, all in the first half. Defensively, Baylor came away with a game-high six steals.

Pribble and senior point guard Brad Musser were named to the all-tournament team for their two-night efforts.

Guard Keith Aufmuth led a trio of B-W double-digit scorers with 16 points. Dan Gundert followed up with 13 tallies and Tori Davis notched a dozen. Davis was named the tournament most valuable player after torching the College of Wooster for 44 points in B-W’s 113-108 double-overtime victory over the host Scots.

The Warriors played some of their most inspired basketball of the season in the first half against the nationally 17th ranked Yellow Jackets. The pace of play in those first 20 minutes was characterized by controlled intensity on both sides of the court as the two squads battled for supremacy.

B-W jumped out to an early 13-3 advantage with six points coming from Aufmuth including a pair of three-pointers. Baylor provided the spark Lycoming desperately needed with strong play on at both ends of the hardwood. In a six minute span, Baylor dropped in 11 points and came away with a pair of key steals. He canned his third three-pointer of the half with 8:54 remaining to give Lycoming its first lead at 20-19.

Pribble extended the Warriors edge to 25-19 at the 7:44 mark with a triple and mid-range jumper, but a Tyler Sekarek jumper and Aufmuth’s fourth long-distance bucket evened the score at 25-25 with 6:34 in the stanza.

Lycoming hit a bit of an offensive rut covering a little more than the next three minutes, but the Yellow Jackets didn’t take much advantage in only opening a 28-25 edge with 5:28 remaining.

Both squads battled back and forth for the lead throughout the remainder of the half. Sophomore Kevin Morris tied the score at 35-35 with 0:42 left, marking the final bucket of an up and down first period.

The second half was a different story. After the Warriors took a brief lead following freshman Shawn Harper’s lay-up to make the score 37-35, B-W ripped off 11 straight points before Musser stopped the bleeding at 46-40 with 15:30 on the clock. The Yellow Jackets slowly extended their lead before reaching a peak at 76-54 with 3:23 remaining.

Lycoming is next in action on Friday, January 6, as the Warriors travel to Shenandoah University (Va.). Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
