La CROSSE, Wis. — Viterbo jumped out on top 18-7 and never looked back, going on to defeat Macalester 80-66 Thursday night at La Crosse Central High School. The Scots made a run in the second half to get the game to within 10 points but would not get any closer. Viterbo improves to 3-9 on the season; the Scots drop to 2-7.

Kyle Hines pumped in 24 points and picked up four steals to pace the V-Hawks. Justin Kirking added 19 points and eight rebounds.

Tom Conboy (So., Chanhassen, Minn. / Minnetonka) led a well-balanced Macalester attack with 15 points. He was joined in double figures by Brendan Bosman (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn. / Southwest) with 14 points, and Nate Assel (Fr., Eagan, Minn. / Rosemount) and Lars Johnson (Jr., St. Cloud, Minn. / Tech) with 13 apiece. Bosman led all rebounders with nine boards. Johnson had a solid all-around game, going 6-for-8 from the floor while also collecting six rebounds and five assists.

Each team shot well, with Mac shooting 49% and Viterbo 48%. The V-Hawks went 11-for-26 on three-pointers and turned the ball over just six times.
