Allegheny (6-5) stretched its lead to 12 (27-15) midway through the first half before Thiel cut the deficit to four (29-25) with just under six minutes to play. The Gators outscored the Tomcats 20-4 over the final 5:55 and took a 49-29 lead into the half.
After Allegheny ran their lead to 27 (69-42) early in the second, Thiel put together a 27-8 run to trim the Gator lead to eight (77-69) with 3:35 remaining. Allegheny knocked down four-of-six free throws down the stretch in posting the 10-point victory.
Courtney Steding and Kristen Lyzen each had 12 points to lead the Gators. Steding and Caitlin Murtagh each had a team-high nine rebounds while Stephanie Wolf added 11 points.
Freshman forward Amber Bodrick had a game-high 26 points and 13 rebounds to pace the Tomcats (2-9). Junior forward Nicole Valentino added 21 points and seven boards while junior forward Fontella Jones chipped in with 15 points and six rebounds.
Each team finished shooting 41.9 percent from the field and each had 44 total rebounds in the contest.
The Tomcats will return to action on Friday, Dec. 30 when they take on Anderson University (6-4) in the consolation game of the "O" Club Classic at 1 p.m.
