With the win, Stout, which is ranked 11th in the latest D3hoops.com poll, will face 13th ranked Augustana College, an 88-52 winner over Marian College, in the championship game, Thursday, Dec. 29 at 7 p.m.
Stangl scored 14 points in the first half as Stout (10-1) took a 46-19 lead into the locker room. The Blue Devils' defense kept the Saints in check in the first half, allowing Scholastica to shoot at a 21 percent clip.
St. Scholastica (2-7) came out firing in the second half, outscoring Stout 44-39, but the margin was too great.
The Blue Devils had a good night from beyond the 3-point circle, popping in 10-of-19 long range bombs. Stangl connected on 4-of-6 as he led all scorers.
Jacob Nonemacher had a solid defensive effort, recording seven of Stout's 11 blocked shots. His brother John Nonemacher (Jr, Kalispell, Minn) had three blocked shots.
Adam Chandler finished with 10 points, as did Jason Clopton. John Nonemacher matched a career-high with nine points.
The Saints, who shot 34 percent for the game, were led by Andrew Schmitz with 15 points. Josh Gosar finished with 10 points.
Augustana College ran out to a 12 point halftime lead and only made the lead bigger in the second half as the 13th ranked Vikings ran away from Marian College, 88-52, in the opening game of the UW-Stout/Wendy's Holiday Tournament Wednesday at Johnson Fieldhouse.
The Vikings (10-0) only got 10 points from their big gun, Rick Harrigan, but the rest of the team more than made up for Harrigan's missing 16 points. Nate Swetalla rang up 14 points in the second half and finished with a game-high 20 points. Jay McAdams-Thornton and Pat Brusveen each added 12 points. Mike Kolze matched Harrigan - who had been averaging over 26 points per contest - with 10 points.
The Sabres (4-8) were led by Jake Harmsen with 15 points and Titus Redmond with 14.
Augustana, which is off to their best start since the 1972-73 season
