Wartburg 65, UW-Oshkosh 57

LAS VEGAS, NEV. — A 14-6 run in the final 4:30 propelled Wartburg College to its seventh consecutive men's basketball victory Thursday, Dec. 22, as the Knights claimed the championship of Bracket #1 at the Adidas D3 Desert Shootout by upending No. 25-ranked UW-Oshkosh 65-57 in Las Vegas. Nev.

Senior guard Jason Steege dropped in back-to-back three-pointers, beginning at the 4:18 mark, to break a 51-51 tie, giving the Orange and Black the lead for good as part of a 16-point night. Senior forward Rance Cartmill also added 16 points in the win. Senior center Nate Schmidt, moving over 900 career points, finished with 10 points and added 10 rebounds for a double-double, while senior forward Joel Formanek came off the bench for 10 points.

Wartburg (8-1) resumes the 2005-06 Iowa Conference season with a trip to Loras Wednesday, Jan. 4.
