UW-L is off to its best start since 1996-97 (9-2).
St. Thomas, ranked 23rd on D3hoops.com, led 6-5 early in the game before UW-L led 15-10 with 10:16 remaining in the first half. The Eagles then went on a 14-2 run to lead 29-12 with 6:22 left. UW-L led 31-20 at halftime.
UW-L led 38-26 with 13:23 remaining in the game when St. Thomas went on a 12-5 run to cut the deficit to 43-38 with 6:48 left. The Eagles then went on a 10-0 run to lead 53-38 with 2:47 remaining and the Tommies could get no closer than eight the rest of the game.
Joe Werner recorded his 13th career double-double for UW-L with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Marcus Conigliaro added 12 points, seven rebounds and three steals for the Eagles.
UW-L shot 40.0% from the field, including 30.8% (four-of-13) from three-point range. The Eagles were three-of-four (75.0%) at the free throw line.
Bryan Schnettler and Mike Keating led St. Thomas with 10 points each. Isaac Rosevelt, who entered the game averaging 24.5 points per game, was held to two points. Rosevelt had a team-high 10 rebounds.
St. Thomas shot 35.8% from the field, including 20.0% (three-of-15) from three-point range. The Tommies were four-of-seven (57.1%) at the line.
