Rockford 64, Lakeland 61

ROCKFORD, Ill. — The Rockford Regents’ men’s basketball team defeated the Lakeland College Muskies tonight 64-61. Going into the game with respect for their opponent, the Regents were confident of the abilities of the Muskies. However, they had also regained confidence in their own abilities through their last four games. After falling to two ranked teams, the Regents won two games prior to tonight’s game to bring their record to 5-6 at the beginning of the game.
The Regents were determined to have a .500 record, though, and it showed on the court. The play went back and forth as the Muskies fought the Regents, but eventually the Regents exhausted the Muskies and landed them at the end of the night after a series of narrow leads and a very close ending. When all was said and done, though, the Regents successfully raised their record to 6-6 while the Muskies fell to 7-3. The Regents were led in scoring by Maurice Smith (Loves Park, IL/Harlem) with 20 points and 6 rebounds. The Regents’ men’s team will play next on December 29th and 30th in Phoenix, Arizona, at the Grand Canyon Classic.
