Manhattanville 106, Mount Saint Vincent 59

RIVERDALE, NY — Senior James Mooney (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep) scored a team-high 14 points and moved into sole possession of third place on the list of all-time leading scorers in Mount Saint Vincent history, and fellow senior Greg Casey (Mount Vernon, NY/Blessed Sacrament) added 11 points, but the Mount Saint Vincent Men’s Basketball team lost its fifth straight game, 106-59 to Manhattanville during a Skyline Conference game played at Mount Saint Vincent. With the loss, the Dolphins fall to 3-7 for the 2005-06 season, including a 1-3 Skyline Conference record.

Manhattanville (5-3, 2-2 Skyline Conference) raced out to a 55-32 halftime lead thanks to an incredible shooting night. The Valiants shot 53% from the floor and hit 10 of their 21 three-point field goal attempts. Four Valiants scored in double figures, led by senior Mike Benzinger (Sonoma, CA) who scored a game-high 18 points, while sophomore Donte Chisolm (Mount Vernon, NY) added 17 points and five assists. Manhattanville also enjoyed a 48-36 rebounding advantage, and turned the ball over only 15 times while forcing 21 turnovers. The Valiants held a 28-9 points off turnovers advantage and converted 16 of their 21 free throw attempts, while Mount Saint Vincent was 5 for 7 from the free throw line.

Mooney scored 12 of his 14 points during the first half of play, but struggled to shoot as the game progressed, and finished 6 for 21 from the floor. His first field goal, a three-point shot 5:30 into the game, moved him past Eddie Peskie and into third place on the list of all-time leading scores during a basketball history at the Mount that spans more than a quarter century. Mooney has now scored 1,444 career points, and needs to score 251 points to move into second place all-time, and 340 points to become the all-time leading scorer in Dolphins’ history.

Mount Saint Vincent will now have a nearly two-week break before returning to action on Monday, Jan. 2 when they host NYU at 7:00 p.m.
