UMHB shot just 26 per cent from the field and 13 per cent from three-point range in the first half as Southwestern took a 29-24 lead at the break. The Crusaders fought back on 44 per cent shooting in the second half and UMHB held the Pirates to 31 per cent shooting after halftime. The Crusaders also forced 18 turnovers to help compensate for Southwestern’s 37-31 rebounding advantage.
Patrick Oliver led UMHB with 17 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Brandon Gatlin added 12 points for the Crusaders and nine different players scored for UMHB. Robert Cates and Aaron Bowser led Southwestern with 15 points apiece.
The Crusaders will return to action with a home game on December 29th. The UMHB men will host Wisconsin-Platteville for a 3:00 PM tip-off that day at the Mayborn Campus Center.
