Mississippi College 110, McMurry 87

CLINTON, MS — Street & Smith Preseason All-American forward Tyler Winford scored a career high 27 points to lead Mississippi College to a 110-87 blowout of McMurry University Monday night in A. E. Wood Coliseum.

Winford knocked down 11-13 shot attempts and was one of six different Choctaws in double figures. David Doty (14), Cedric Armstrong (13), D. J. Jones (11), Timothy Broomfield (11) and Jonathan Collins all reached double figure points for MC.

McMurry was led by Elijah Bryant's 22 points and were tied with the Choctaws 18-18 midway through the first half. MC ended the half on a 31-16 run to take a 49-34 lead into the break.

In the second half the Choctaws led by as many as 29 points and never fewer than 14. MC shot 63 percent from the field and totalled 28 assists. MC was 33-48 on foul attempts including 27-35 in the second half with McMurry committing 35 fouls.

The Indians shot just 44 percent and placed four players in double figures. In addition to Bryant, Cole Dickerson (16), Finlay Brashears (15) and Rommel Colina (10) all scored ten or more. Brahears also grabbed a game high seven rebounds.

MC point guard Jonathan Collins dished out a game high eight assists with just one turnover and finished with four steals. Broomfield collected seven assists and five rebounds. Armstrong was a perfect 5-5 from the field for his 13 points.

The Choctaws are off for Christmas break and will not play again until a home contest against Fisk University on January 2. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
