Lycoming shot a solid 42.9 percent from the field (12-for-28) in the first half, but was overshadowed by a scorching 17-of-30 (56.7 percent) showing by EMU. Both teams cooled in the second frame, but the Warriors’ output dipped a little too low to 25.9 percent (7-for-27).
Senior Stacy Lindeman recorded a personal season-best 18 points on 8-of-18 shooting. Freshman Andrea Cooper followed up with 13 tallies including one of Lycoming’s two three-point hits. Senior Danielle Kern grabbed a team-high seven rebounds, and stepped into several Royal passing lanes resulting in four steals.
EMU’s attack was led by Amanda Renalds. She notched 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting to go along with a game-high 10 rebounds. Stephanie Matthews was the only other Royal in double figures with 12 points.
Eastern Mennonite controlled everything under the baskets thanks to a 43-22 advantage on the glass. The Royals were strong in the paint with 36 points compared to Lycoming’s 14, and ripped down 16 offensive rebounds that resulted in 17 second chance points.
Lycoming tried to claw its way back into the game with strong free-throw shooting. The Warriors canned 11-of-13 tries (84.6 percent) from the charity stripe, but the deficit proved too much to overcome.
The Warriors are in action again January 6 and 7, 2006, at the Lycoming College women’s basketball tournament in Lamade Gymnasium. Lycoming welcomes College Misericordia, Gallaudet University, and Susquehanna University to Williamsport. Game times on the first night are at 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. followed by two games at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. on day two.
