MEQUON, Wis. — The Carthage College men’s basketball team (3-6, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) trounced Concordia University (Wis., 2-8), 102-59, on Monday, Dec. 19 at the John Buuck Fieldhouse in Mequon, Wis. Carthage took charge of the game in the early going, with the Red Men taking a 10-point lead, 26-16, at 10:49. The Falcons got as close as four points, 26-22, at 8:08 before the Red Men used a 24-7 run to extend their lead to 21 points, 50-29, at 2:16. Carthage led by 18 points at the break, 50-32. In the second half, the Red Men used a 21-7 run at the start of the period to go up by 32 points, 71-39, at 11:49. Carthage made it a 39-point game, 83-44, at 8:10, a 40-point contest, 89-49, at 5:35 and went on to win by 43 points, 102-59. The 43-point margin was the largest for the Red Men since defeating Massachusetts-Dartmouth by 49, 90-41, on March 9, 2001 at the NCAA Division III sectional championship semifinals at Ohio Northern University. Carthage went over the 100-point mark for the first time since defeating Dominican University (Ill.), 101-62, on Nov. 30, 2001. Scott Hood, making his first start of the year at point guard, led the Redmen with a career-high 27 points on six-of-six field goals, including five-of-five three-pointers and 10-of-11 free throws, along with six rebounds. Kyle Jeffery had 20 points and eight rebounds, Malik Imani 11 points and seven boards, and Keena Johnson chipped in 10 points. Trey Bowens added nine points and seven assists. Matt Peets topped the Falcons with 15 points. The Red Men are idle until Friday, Dec. 30 when they play host to No. 29 Gustavus Adolphus College (6-1) at the Carthage Physical Education Center in Kenosha, Wis. (7:30 p.m.).
