In the opening 20 minutes the Vikings held the Foresters to just 17 shots from the field and .353 shooting (six of 17) as they built a 26-15 halftime advantage. The defensive noose stayed tight in the second half and Augustana held the visitors to just .396 (19-48) for the game.
Rick Harrigan and Jay McAdams-Thornton shared scoring honors for the Vikings as each had 16 points. Most of the damage was done from the free throw line where McAdams-Thornton was eight of eight and Harrigan went six of seven. As a team, Augustana was 21 of 25 form the charity stripe.
Lake Forest led just once and that was at 2-0 in the early going but with 8:03 left in the first half the Vikings had the lead in double digits at 18-7 after Harrigan made a basket and converted on the three point play. In the second half the advantage never dipped into single digits and got as high as 23 (45-22) with 12:16 left in the game.
Harrigan, who came into the contest averaging 27.6 points per game, was held to just eight field goal attempts. He made four of those, including both of his three point field goal tries. He also had an assist, two blocked shots and one steal.
The two teams battled to a 30-30 standoff in the rebounding department with McAdams-Thornton and Shaun Rose sharing the lead with four each. Drew Wessels had four steals, all in the first half and Mike Kolze led the team in assists with four.
Franklyn Beckford was the leading scorer (10) and rebounder (nine) for Lake Forest.
Augustana is now 8-0 on the season while the Foresters drop to 3-6.
