Stone helped the Bears build a 16-4 lead just five minutes into the game. He buried three triples and an 18-foot fadeaway jumper, including eight straight points to force a Fontbonne timeout.
Stone hit back-to-back triples to give WU a 27-11 lead midway through the period. He knocked down his sixth trey for a 40-20 Bears lead. He ended the half in a flurry, hitting another shot from beyond the arc and scoring on a breakaway lay-up to give the Red and Green a 58-35 advantage at halftime. He finished with 31 points in the first half, including 9-of-11 from behind the arc.
Sophomore Danny O’Boyle contributed a career-high 13 points in the first frame, hitting 5-of-5 free throws. He finished with 19 points.
Less than one minute into the second half, Stone broke the single-game school record with his 10th trey of the game. The Bears totaled 17 three pointers as a squad, which was also a single-game record.
Freshman Ryan Kirkpatrick led the Griffins (4-6) with 18 points.
Washington University (7-3) returns to action Wednesday, Jan. 4 at Maryville University. Tip off is set for 8 p.m.
